1. Why is it important to submit a monthly meter reading?

   A monthly meter reading will save you money! How? It’s because you’ll:

   • only pay for the power you actually use
   • keep your bills accurate
   • learn more about your power usage

2. When does SaskPower read the meter?

   For customers in cities and towns, we’ll read your meter every 3 months. But if you live in:

   • rural areas and acreages
   • resort areas
   • communities with a population less than 500

   We’ll come to read your meter once a year.

   But you can easily submit your meter readings for the months that we don’t.

3. How do I submit my own meter reading?

   There are 4 ways to submit your own meter reading:

   • through our online form
   • via your online account
   • the SaskPower App
   • over the phone

   Six days before your billing date is the best time to read your meter. Check your bill to find out your billing cycle and date. You have until 5:00 pm on your billing date to submit your reading.

4. Why doesn’t SaskPower just read every meter every month?

   Getting to every home in the province each month isn’t possible. And it would cost a lot of money.

   That’s why we read residential customer meters every 3 months and everyone else once a year. Reading your meter is easy and a great way to help keep your power bills accurate. 

   Once we modernize our grid, smart meters will help us know the exact amount of power you use each month. That means no more estimates.

5. What happens if the meter isn’t read?

   If you don’t read your meter, we’ll just estimate your power usage for the month. This is based on your past data.

   We look at the actual usage for the same timeframe in previous years. From that it estimates your usage. That’s why you may notice your bill go up or down when you get your actual reading.

   This is why it’s important for you to submit your own meter reads. That way your power bill will be more accurate and consistent. Plus, it’ll save you money.
