BD3 Status Update: February 2017

Due to a planned outage at the Boundary Dam Power Station CCS facility, the facility experienced lower than average performance during the month of February. In February, the facility captured over 21,800 tonnes of carbon dioxide while operating at 39 per cent of the month.

As noted in January's BD3 update, planned maintenance for routine cleaning and inspection was scheduled at the beginning of February taking the facility offline for just over two weeks. The maintenance completed was in preparation of a longer, planned maintenance that is scheduled to begin in June.

The facility resumed operations in mid-February, but was then taken offline for several days in the later part of the month due to electrical issues with the compressor. Temporary corrective actions have been applied to fix the issue and further maintenance is scheduled to take place during the June outage.

SaskPower is continually focusing on the operations at the facility and ensuring it is operating in the most cost-effective and efficient way. SaskPower is committed to reducing our greenhouse emissions and CCS is just one way we are doing it. For more information, visit Our Power Future.
