Canada Celebrates National Electricity Month

June is National Electricity Month

Every June, Canada celebrates National Electricity Month, shining a light on the crucial role that electricity plays in powering our work, our play, and our future. As a proud member of the Canadian Electricity Association, SaskPower is celebrating this month. Electricity has played and will continue to play a fundamental role in our history and in our quality of life, and as we count down to the country's 150th anniversary, it's a perfect time to highlight the evolving landscape of Canadian and Saskatchewan power production and use.

Notably, Saskatchewan's carbon capture efforts are highlighted as a top Canadian innovation. SaskPower's world-leading carbon capture process at Boundary Dam Power Station in Estevan is helping us produce affordable coal power, but in a way that is much cleaner than conventional coal power and even cleaner than natural gas power. Carbon capture, wind, solar, hydro and other initiatives are leading Saskatchewan to a reduction of up to 40 per cent of our greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

Please visit the process from the convenience of your own mobile device or computer at www.saskpower.com/ccs/tour.

SaskPower employs more than 3,200 men and women in Saskatchewan and invests nearly a billion dollars annually to maintain, modernize and grow the province's power grid. We have an installed capacity of 4,400 megawatts to meet the power needs of every home and business from Estevan to Uranium City, and maintain nearly 160,000 km of power lines to make sure people have the power they need, when they need it.

June is National Electricity Month. Electricity goes hand in hand with quality of life and SaskPower is participating in the Canadian Electricity Association's activities all month long. To learn more, visit www.electricity.ca.
