SaskPower Spending Over $7 Million in Regina’s Downtown to Improve Reliability

A thriving downtown needs reliable power, and SaskPower is investing over $7 million in Regina’s central business district this year to upgrade its electrical system and improve reliability.
Construction season is here, and throughout the summer and fall SaskPower will be replacing underground cables, switches and duct banks. Crews will also replace or remove other equipment that is at or near the end of its life.
“This work will help bolster the reliability of the electrical grid and help pave the way for the future throughout the city of Regina, especially to make sure our business customers and residents living downtown have the power they need,” said Shawn Schmidt, Vice President, Distribution and Customer Services.
“This work will also help reduce the number of outages for several areas of Regina and will eventually help our crews locate and resolve outages faster in the future through smart technology.”
Crews will do their best to reduce impacts to residents and businesses while conducting work, coordinating projects with the City of Regina as much as possible.
