The Bekevar Wind Facility will bring 200 megawatts (MW) of renewable wind energy to the province. Adding this emission-free power to the grid will allow us to power up to 100,000 homes emission-free. The facility is being built north of Moose Mountain Provincial Park.
Why We’re Doing ItThis wind project will help us make cuts to greenhouse gas emissions. It’s part of a fuller plan to ensure we can continue to deliver you reliable, sustainable, cost-effective power.
Our Progress So Far
We ran an open procurement competition that began in 2019. We chose Renewable Energy Systems (RES) Canada in partnership with Cowessess First Nation to build this wind facility. They’ll build it in the RM of Hazelwood, north of Moose Mountain Provincial Park. When complete, they’ll own and manage the facility and sell this power back to us.
We’ll also need to build a power line to connect the new facility to the grid. This line will run from the Kennedy Switching Station to the new facility. Siting and public consultation for the power line route will get underway soon.
Keeping You InformedWe’ll keep you informed as we get updates. For more details about this project:
