Yellowhead Power Station

Opened: 2010
Where: North Battleford, SK
Fuel source: Natural Gas
Power capacity: 181 megawatts (MW)

Facts about the Yellowhead Power Station

  • This station uses simple-cycle gas turbines to generate electricity when demand is needed to support the power system.
  • The station can be operated remotely by SaskPower’s Grid Control Centre (GCC) in Regina through a dedicated fibre optic connection.
  • During winter, waste heat from the power stations air compressor is used to help maintain heat to the connected building.

  • In December 2025, we added a simple-cycle natural gas turbine to the station. This is the facility’s fourth turbine, increasing its power generation up to an additional 46 megawatts (MW) of power. This is equal to what’s needed to power up to 46,000 homes in Saskatchewan.
