We’re investing in the province’s power system to ensure you have reliable and affordable power, and to support our growing province.

One way we do this is by working with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to help add more power to our grid.

What is an IPP?

An IPP is a company that’s separate from SaskPower.

We work with IPPs to:

  • Build and own new power generation projects
  • Operate and maintain those facilities
  • Sell the power generated back to us

This helps us bring more power to our grid to meet growing demand across the province.

Why We Work with IPPs

Working with IPPs helps us add more power for our communities and businesses. It also supports growth and economic development around the province.

Here are some benefits:

  • Specialized expertise in building and operating power facilities
  • Efficiency
  • Lower risk to SaskPower
  • Cost-competitiveness
  • Strong local relationships with communities and landowners
