transmission lines

We’re building new power infrastructure in the Blairmore area of Saskatoon. This’ll improve power reliability and support the city as it grows.

The project includes building a new substation and a new power line that will connect to an existing line nearby.

Project Stage: Prepare, Design and Procure

Why is Reinforcement Needed?

We’re anticipating Saskatoon’s continued growth and the extra power the city will need. We’re building new power lines and a substation to make sure our system is ready for the increased demand.

Our Progress So Far

From our initial assessments, we developed some potential line route options. In May 2025, we reached out to landowners, stakeholders, and impacted municipalities to get input on those options. We wanted to hear your thoughts on:

  • what impacts the project may have on you and how we can reduce those impacts
  • who else we should be talking to
  • impacts to the environment and wildlife
  • existing and future local infrastructure in the area

We’ve incorporated the feedback we received to develop our recommended route for where the line should be built.

We’re planning to engage again with landowners and impacted stakeholders to get feedback about the revised route.

Respecting the Local Environment

What we do today impacts our future. We’re always working hard to reduce our impact and protect the environment.

As we plan projects, we use tools like databases, satellite imagery and field surveys to understand the environment we are working in.

As projects move forward, we’ll make sure environmental protection standards are in place to reduce our impact on features like:

  • waterbodies
  • sensitive lands
  • wildlife and their habitats
  • heritage resources

We also work with the Ministry of Environment and other regulatory agencies to ensure we meet all environmental requirements.
