We’re building new power lines and a new switching station in the Estevan area.
The switching station will be called 'Tableland Switching Station' because of a nearby geographic location. It’ll be built to support 5 new power lines initially and will have capacity to grow in the future.
This project includes:
- 2 power lines connecting to existing lines north of Boundary Dam Power Station
- 1 power line connecting to Iyuhána Solar Energy Facility.
- 2 new power lines that’ll be part of the Southwest Power Pool Project.
Why We're Doing It
This project will support new power projects and interconnections being added to the power grid as we increase transmission line capacity to support future generation.
These lines will connect to the Southwest Power Pool in the United States and the 100-megawatt (MW) Iyuhána Solar Energy Facility near Estevan.
Our Progress So Far
We purchased 4 quarter sections of land southwest of Estevan for the Tableland Switching Station. The first stage of construction began in July 2024.
We’ll be engaging with stakeholders and landowners about route options for the power lines in mid April 2025. We’ll gather feedback through 1-on-1 meetings.
Respecting the Local Environment
What we do today impacts our future. We’re always working hard to reduce our impact and protect the environment.
As we plan projects, we use tools like databases, satellite imagery and field surveys to understand the environment we are working in.
As projects move forward, we’ll make sure environmental protection standards are in place to reduce our impact on features like:
- waterbodies
- sensitive lands
- wildlife and their habitats
- heritage resources
We also work with the Ministry of Environment and other regulatory agencies to ensure we meet all environmental requirements.
Project Outcomes
This project will help us continue to provide cost-effective and reliable power for the people and communities we serve.
Project benefits include:
- Improved operating flexibility of our grid
- Increased reliability in the case of an outage or issue with a transmission line
- Access to a large energy market that’ll give us the ability to keep costs as low as possible for customers
