We’re building new power lines to support the Water Security Agency’s (WSA) operations at Lake Diefenbaker. WSA needs power service for a new west pumping station on the north side of the Lake. They also need an upgrade to their power service at their existing pumping station east of Gardiner Dam.
We’re planning to build the lines in 2 phases:
- Phase 1: We’ll replace the existing power line that goes from the Coteau Creek Switching Station to WSA’s east pumping station.
- Phase 2: We’ll build a new power line from the Coteau Creek Switching Station to WSA’s new west pumping site.
Our Progress So Far
We’re in the early stages of engagement. From our initial technical assessment, we’ve developed a routing corridor where the new lines will be built. We’re seeking feedback from Rightsholders, landowners and other stakeholders about the potential impacts of these new power lines and how we can reduce those impacts.
We’ll use the feedback we receive, combined with our routing considerations, to plan where the power line structures should go.
Respecting the Local Environment
What we do today impacts our future. We’re always working hard to reduce our impact and protect the environment.
As we plan projects, we use tools like databases, satellite imagery and field surveys to understand the environment we are working in.
As projects move forward, we’ll make sure environmental protection standards are in place to reduce our impact on features like:
- waterbodies
- sensitive lands
- wildlife and their habitats
- heritage resources
We also work with the Ministry of Environment and other regulatory agencies to ensure we meet all environmental requirements.
Project Benefits
When finished, the new power lines will improve WSA’s service in the Lake Diefenbaker area.
