SaskPower’s carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility at Boundary Dam Unit 3 had a total capture of 848,388 tonnes of CO2 in 2024, which is the strongest calendar year to date. The facility was available 85% of the time, exceeding the target of 80%.

During the fourth quarter of 2024 (October 1 – December 31), the CCS facility was available 78% of the time, capturing 172,514 tonnes of CO2. While online, the facility had a daily average capture rate of 2,484 tonnes in Q4, with a peak one-day capture of 2,773 tonnes. This resulted in an emissions intensity of 364 tonnes of carbon dioxide per gigawatt hour. 

The acid plant at CCS also continued its strong performance, producing a record 4,427 tonnes of sulfuric acid in 2024.

As of the end of 2024, 6,606,728 tonnes of CO2 have been captured and prevented from entering the atmosphere.
