We’re in the early stages of developing a long-term plan for how we’ll supply power to the province in the future. And we believe you should have a say in what that future looks like.

We sat down with Lara Ludwig, our Manager of Public Engagement and Stakeholder Consultation to talk about how you can help us plan the power system of the future.

1. Why should you get involved?

The people of the province need to have a say because this future supply plan will have a huge impact on our province for decades to come!

Between now and 2035, Saskatchewan will go through the biggest energy transition we’ve seen in generations. Power already touches just about every aspect of our day-to-day lives. And it’ll only become more important as the province continues to grow. Not only that but also as more and more things switch from running on fossil fuels to electricity.

When it comes to how we’ll supply power, we have a number of options to choose from. That includes some that aren’t even available yet. Each has their own pros and cons of availability, cost, reliability and emissions. This is your opportunity to help us understand your priorities as we create a made-in-Saskatchewan approach.

2. How does the planning process work?

We’re following a 2-year, 5-stage process. Right now, we’re in Stage 2. We’re sharing detailed information about the supply options we’re considering, such as their respective costs, emissions, environmental and social impacts. The next stages will focus on:

• exploring various supply scenarios
• sharing a draft of the plan for you to review
• finalizing the plan

3. How can I provide my input?

There are lots of ways! You can pick an option that works best for you:

• Complete our Stage 2 survey
• Register for one of our online workshops running on March 27, 28, 29, and 30
• Send our supply planning team a question
• Sign up for our newsletter for future opportunities

4. If you’re already in Stage 2, is it too late to join the conversation?

Not at all! You’ll have opportunities to contribute every step of the way. And if you want to catch up on what we’ve heard so far, you can read our report and check out videos of past events.

5. What will you do with my input?

We’ll use your input, along with other factors we need to consider – such as Saskatchewan’s unique needs and federal emissions regulations – as we draft and refine the plan. We’ll also report back on what we’ve heard from you and others as the process continues.
