Looking for ways to save on your bill and help the environment? This year we've added smart home products to our Discount Programs to help you save even more power. We caught up with Janson Anderson, Director, Customer Programs, to learn more about how to take advantage of our money-saving offers this fall.
  1. How does the Retail Discount Program work?

Our Retail Discount Program is an expanded version of our Lighting Discount Program that runs from Sept. 30 - Nov. 30. We are now also offering instant, in-store discounts on select smart home products from Sept. 30 - Oct. 31. You won't have to worry about clipping coupons when you buy certain smart home products such as smart thermostats, in addition to our regular lineup Energy Star® rated LED bulbs, light fixtures, and lighting controls at participating stores around Saskatchewan.

  2. Where can I get discounted products?

On our website, you'll find a list of stores in communities across the province that are participating in our discount program.

You can also check local store flyers and look for our in-store displays to find out which products we're discounting. In some stores, we'll have a representative on-hand to help you choose the correct bulb and answer any of your questions around smart home product.

One more thing: when buying a bulb, Energy Star®-rated bulbs are the gold standard. Make sure you read the labels to check the colour temperature, brightness and lifespan of the bulb. The minimum lifespan of an Energy-Star rated bulb is 15,000 hours (15 years in an average SK home). Look closely at the label to ensure you are getting the right bulb for your needs.

  3. What is a smart thermostat?

Smart thermostats allow you to monitor and adjust your power use from your mobile device. They also use occupancy sensors to learn your behaviour, helping you to save power and money by keeping your home a few degrees cooler while you are away and bump up the temperature a short time before you get home  all from your mobile phone or tablet.

  4. What is a smart power bar?

Did you know that 19 per cent of your home's electricity consumption comes from electronics? "Smart" or "Intelligent" power bars are a convenient way to reduce phantom power and your overall power consumption. Leaving electronics plugged in when you aren't using them creates phantom power. Smart power bars have "controlled" and "always on" outlets that allow you to manage your electronics. For example, you can plug your TV into the "always on" outlet. When you turn off your TV, other devices like your cable box and sound system will also turn off if they're plugged into the "controlled" outlets.

  5. What is a smart plug?

Smart plugs are a simple-to-use device that plug into standard wall sockets. They allow you to control plugged-in devices through an app on your smart phone or tablet. Some smart plugs allow you to create simple schedules for your home's electronics to maximize energy savings. They also allow you to monitor the amount of power a device uses in an hour, a day, or even a month.

This fall's discount program is the perfect time to try out this technology. Let us help you save!
